Serenity

I saw Serenity last night. It is the full length feature film by Joss Whedon, the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. Wow, that makes it sound unappealing. This one is based off of his short series Firefly. But it got good reviews, so I went and saw for myself. My one setance review:

"Wing Commander" meets "Resident Evil".

Primary ingredients: zombies, spaceships, girls, cowboys, and the man gettin' all in thier face. All the hallmarks of a mindless manfilm. Sorry, ladies, you might want to sit this one out.

I just finished watching it... I have no major complaints. I don't think it is that mindless. (Compare it to my namesake at least). The dialogue isn't quite as snappy as some of the episodes of Firefly, but that is okay... makes it feel a bit more mature.

The beginning of the movie feels a little too quick paced, I think they are trying to catch you up to where the TV show left off. But it settles quite nicely after that.

The Action is good. Special effects are solid.

I guess the way I would sum it up... Hello! Sci-Fi! What did you expect?!

I don't think they ever advertised it as a chick flick...

Found this blog randomly and saw your serenity post and...couldn't resist posting...

I am female and have been a fan of firefly since it first aired.....you just aren't appreciatin' the lure of Mal or Jane....heck, even Wash. And Inara's costumes (which are sorely lacking in the movie) are fabulous in the series. And Kailee as a spunky, mechanic female to look up to?

See? Definitely enough for a female to appreciate...:-)

The thing is, I liked the movie a lot. But the series is even better....

Course, I also think that Fight Club is one of the best movies ever made, and I'm not sure one would call that a chick flick either....so, I may not be the normal sample, yanno?
